Oof! The do’s and do not’s of wine tasting.
I’ll keep this short & sweet, but make sure you read until the end.
Here is what you should always considering doing when you go tasting in Oregon's Willamette Valley Wine Country:
1- Wear something comfortable & go for the cute shoes! But if you’re going to be walking at all in the vineyard (or honesty, just in case), remember to pack your flats. We can’t be going home with a sprained ankle- The wine may help at the time, but the next day you’ll be regretting those heels.
2- Don’t forget to pack your jacket. Oregon is known to have some unpredictable weather. Be prepared and pack a warm jacket if it is going to be chilly, and if there is any chance of rain in the forecast, a rain jacket better be in your bag.
NOW onto the things to be mindful about when you go wine tasting:
1-When you’re getting ready, you obviously want to smell good. For most occasions, spray some perfume or cologne… but for wine tasting, this is a no-go. The taste and smell of the wine can be compromised by strong smells. So even if it doesn’t bother you, it might bother your neighbor. Keep it light and skip the strong smells on tasting day.
2- If you’re down for a cute outfit, go for it. On the flip side, the Oregon Wine Industry is overall very casual. You’ll fit right in with jeans and a T-shirt, so don’t fret if you aren’t all dressed up for your tastings in the Willamette Valley, but definitely don't over-do your outfit unless you are aware of a black-tie like dress code.
Below, I have inserted several outfit examples that are good ideas to wear to a tasting. If you are anything like me, I am someone who encourages all kinds of inspiration, so take these and create an outfit of your own with or without them in mind. :)
