I wish it was just wine tasting and bopping around all day, but it’s quite the opposite. Here's a (normal) day in the life, enjoy!
As I begin to write this, I realize that many people have seen me in days that do not follow this (or any) routine.. so I want to preface this with the fact that every day is a little different, I am human after all. I also love variety, so have your opinion, but read the article and learn something from me about how to make your day-to-day one percent better ;)
I open my eyes with a bout of waking anxiety around 5:15AM. I close them immediately and roll over to rest until my alarm goes off at 5:35. Reaching over to hopefully hit the right spot on my phone to stop the noise, I just end up pressing the snooze button and cuddling up to my blanket for a few more minutes.
After a couple of minutes of orientation for the day, I peel myself out of bed and throw the comforter back on to make my bed and the pillows in order to look good enough until the next sleep. Immediately I get a good stretch in and head into the bathroom to run through my routine:
-clean face off (wash if I slept in my makeup)
-skincare
-brush my teeth in-between skincare steps
-mouthwash
-tongue scrap (if there is one thing you need to start, this is it)
-finish up skincare
-voila! Done.
I log into work to see if there is anything that is too important to wait until after coffee, today it’s a coffee-first day. I throw my hair up into a claw clip, put my glasses on, and slide my crossbody bag on to step out for a walk to starbs. Today a jacket feels nice, but it’s warm enough to wear shorts. Classically I go with biker shorts and a cropped hoodie (my unofficial uniform).
As I dream about my pumpkin spice cold brew (½ sweet, no ice) (shown above), I catch up on text messages for the first part of my walk. I have a pleasant interaction with the barista who takes my order and look around to smile at the other people of all levels of their morning who happened to overlap at this time for the same reason- caffeine. On the way home I send some videos to my friends to update them on where I am today. In between phone time, I enjoy the sunlight that is peeking through and the cool air of the start to Autumn.
Upon returning home, I throw my headphones in, have a quick scroll on IG, pick a podcast to listen to, grab some water, and sit down to bust through a few work emails before a morning meeting. This is boring so let’s fast forward to like 11AM when I pop a caffeine pill, drink some water, and gear up for a run. Today I didn’t really want to run, but I started to feel good as I got to my first ¼ mile. I got through the first mile, second, and third, finally decided to slow down and walk for a cool down on the last stretch. I look at my apple watch, it reads 4.02 miles. After getting back a shower is highly encouraged, but I get distracted with work for another hour before doing so. If you work from home and don’t take mid-day showers, you’re honestly missing out lol.
After my shower I attend a webinar for my side hustle and learn about someone who runs their own business. The presenter speaks about themself the whole time, with the content not pulling through. I am not too impressed with this one- when I spend 2 hours on a webinar and have expectations for takeaways. Am I alone whenI get a little mad when I am not given the promised material to learn? I guess they say showing up is the first step to success, right? I take a few minutes to decompress, I eat lunch after the meeting and make a snack for later. I also grab more water and dive back into work for the final stretch of the workday.
*Shuts Laptop* I get comfy to read a chapter of my book and obviously end up falling asleep (just for 15 minutes). A quick nap is always appreciated. I wake up with a groggy tired feeling, so I decide to go outside again for a quick walk before packing up and heading to a soccer drop-in. Soccer has always been a part of my life, but getting to go play with other adults creates another level of community and it is always fun to have some friendly competition while improving my skills. As I am leaving soccer someone yells over to me with an invite for happy hour, I can’t help but want to go… so I agree to come along. We split a bottle of wine and I snag a photo for my IG @willamettevalleywine #hustler. We chat and laugh about random things until we are done and ready to part ways.
I unlock the door to my house and the couch is calling my name. The time is later than I expected but I take a few minutes to clean up before showering and eventually shutting my overhead light off & flicking my bedside reading light on. I drink some water and throw back a couple of magnesium tablets for better sleep and muscle recovery. My personal laptop is staring at me from my bedside table and wondering why I didn’t do anything today for my website. A deep breath in and a deep breath out… I make the tough decision to do a little more work because I know I will regret it if I didn’t do anything for my own brand today. A blog is queued up and an instagram draft is created before setting my screens aside. I pick my book up for one more chapter and write down three things on my agenda for tomorrow that I want to accomplish.
After a full day, I find myself feeling tired and happy while I lay in bed recognize a few things I am grateful for, a few things I could have done to be better, and then I fall asleep thinking about what the future will bring and idealizing all of the things I shouldn’t be (i.e. working for myself full time ;)).
